Pretrial Internships
Student Interns at the U.S. Probation & Pretrial Services
Office are responsible for the following duties:
Conducts pretrial services interviews with defendants. Prepares
reports pertaining to the pretrial release of defendants. The student
intern shall review and modify the aforementioned reports for defendants
seeking release pursuant to a motion for review of detention or
appeal from a detention order.
Assists officers in performing probation and pretrial investigations
of all types for our own office and other districts (i.e., collateral,
pretrial, presentence, etc.) Visits various local law enforcement,
correctional facilities, communities, courts and regulatory agencies
to collect and record information for pretrial and presentence investigation
reports and collateral investigations. Initiates collateral requests
to other districts on defendants with out-of-state criminal histories.
As required, completes investigative reports and other correspondence.
Coordinates the transfer of supervision of defendants to other districts
and provides reports to the court in a timely manner. Initiates
requests for status reports on defendants supervised in other districts
and documents responses in chronological records.
As needed, performs some filing, copying and typing duties.
Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled in a two or four year undergraduate
program, master's degree program or law school.
